Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

@MizzouHoops Unable to Hold Off Ole Miss in Overtime, 90-87

Tigers have six score in double-figures as they turn focus to Kentucky on Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Basketball (18-10, 8-7) fell just short in overtime against Ole Miss (12-16, 5-10), with a final score of 90-87 on Tuesday night. The game began on an electric note with a dunk from freshman forward Jeremiah Tilmon (East St. Louis, Ill.) only a few seconds into play, as the standout Tiger would proceed onward to the second double-double of his initial collegiate season (12 points, 12 rebounds).

The Tigers were led in scoring by fellow freshman forward Jontay Porter (Columbia, Mo.), who racked up 17 points and nine rebounds. Graduate senior guard Kassius Robertson (Toronto, Ontario) scored 16 points in the contest -- marking the ninth-straight game he has scored 10-or-more points.

TURNING POINT

The two teams did battle to an 84-84 tie at the end of regulation, sending the matchup into overtime. This was just the second time this season the Tigers played an overtime period, the first coming against Mississippi State (Feb. 10).

It was a physical and hard-fought extra period of play, but the Rebels' managed to sink a field goal and four free throws, while Mizzou sank just three three throws. A last second shot by junior guard Jordan Geist (Fort Wayne, Ind.) to tie the game was just short.

TOP TIGERS

  • Graduate senior guard Kassius Robertson moved into sole possession of eighth all-time on Mizzou's all-time three pointers made in a single season list. He sank four in the game to give a season total of 86.
  • Robertson also tied his career-high in assists, dishing out six dimes.
  • Senior forward Jordan Barnett scored 15-or-more points for the fourth consecutive game. Barnett also knocked down four three-pointers for the eighth time this season.

NOTES

  • For the 17th time this season, Mizzou hit 10-or-more three-pointers. It was the seventh time this season Mizzou accomplished the feat in conference play.
  • Mizzou had six players in double-figures for the first time since January 11, 2012 against Iowa State.

UP NEXT

The Tigers next travel to Lexington, Kentucky, for a second matchup against the Wildcats. The game is set to tip at 7:15 pm CT, and can be seen on ESPN. The Tigers defeated Kentucky at home by a score of 69-60 earlier this season (Feb. 3).
