COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 7 Mizzou Wrestling hosts No. 10 Virginia Tech at the Hearnes Center Friday night for its first home meet of the season. The top-10 matchup is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., and will be Military Appreciation Night. Mizzou has won 22 consecutive duals dating back to the 2016-17 season.
The Tigers have won their last two matchups against the Hokies, both coming with a margin of fewer than 10 points. The teams return a combined four All-Americans, including No. 5 Zack Zavatsky for the Hokies, who will face off against either No. 14 Canten Marriott or Dylan Wisman. Five other top-20 matchups are slated for Friday, most notably a top-five face off between No. 4 Daniel Lewis and No. 5 Cody Hughes.
Mizzou seeks its second victory over a top-20 ranked team this season and brings six top-20 ranked individuals into the match. Freshman Zach Elam comes in ranked at No. 20 in just his third week of his collegiate career, while redshirt junior Daniel Lewis and redshirt sophomore Grant Leeth stay put at No. 4 in their respective weight classes. Redshirt junior Jaydin Eierman holds his place, ranked third at 141.
