Mizzou fights back after 5-0 and 9-4 deficits in fifth set
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mizzou Volleyball (18-4, 8-2 SEC) earned its signature win of the season following a thrilling 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 25-17, 13-25, 17-15) victory Sunday at No. 11 Florida. The Tigers have now claimed a season-high six consecutive matches.
Sunday marked Mizzou's second top 25 ranked victory of the year, joining its 3-0 sweep versus No. 25 Alabama on Sept. 19. All five of the Tigers' all-time wins against Florida have come against a top 15 nationally ranked Gators squad. It marked Mizzou's second all-time win over Florida in Gainesville.

"I'm very proud of our kids today. It was a very tough match and there were many highs and lows that we had to struggle through. I thought we showed a lot of maturity today. - Mizzou improves to 5-4 in its past nine meetings against Florida. All five of its victories have occurred against a top 15 nationally ranked Gators squad.
- Deberg enjoyed a huge fifth set, producing five kills (zero errors) on .500 hitting. It led to a new career-high 21 kills overall.
- Hollingsworth produced on both sides of the ball Sunday with 11 kills and 13 digs. It marked her fifth double-double of the year, all coming in Southeastern Conference play.
- Fuentes orchestrated the Tiger attack against Florida with a career-high 47 assists. She now has three 40-plus assist matches this year, all coming in SEC action.
- The Tigers started off well in set one, building a 15-11 prior to the media timeout on the court. The host Gators had a response however, reeling off and 8-2 run for a slim 19-17 edge.
- Florida used another mini run to build a late 22-20 lead, but Mizzou answered with an impressive 5-1 run of its own to take the first set.
- Deberg paced the Tigers' offense with five kills in the opening set. Mizzou's blocking game was effective out of the gate, as three Tigers posted multiple total blocks.
- Second set action was dominated by Florida, as a big 11-2 run early on proved to be too much for Mizzou.
- The Gators excelled both offensively and defensively in set two, posting 14 kills on .545 hitting while adding six total blocks.
- Hollingsworth and Munlyn enjoyed successful offensive second sets, posting four kills on .429 hitting and three kills on .600 hitting, respectively.
- Mizzou got back on track in set three, producing a match-best 17 kills on .343 hitting. The defense also excelled by limiting the Gators to seven kills on only .069 hitting.
- Deberg had a big set with six kills on .364 hitting. Overall, five Tigers posted multiple kills to form a balanced offensive attack.
- The two teams switching dominance set by set continued, as the Gators cruised to a 25-13 fourth set triumph. Florida forced 11 Mizzou attack errors and a -.108 hitting percentage.
- The Tigers ultimately prevailed in a wild fifth set, despite being out-hit (.318 to .269) and out-blocked (4.0 to 1.0). Three Mizzou service aces plus 12 total kills proved to be the deciding factor.
