No. 15 @MizzouWBB Falls to LSU, 69-65

Amber Smith scored a career-high 27 points

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (13-2, 1-1) fell in a tight battle to LSU (10-3, 2-0), 69-65, Thursday night at Mizzou Arena. Sophomore Amber Smith poured in a career-high 27 points while redshirt senior Jordan Frericks notched her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds. LSU, which came in with just 30 made 3-pointers on the season, sunk six triples, including four in a 25-point second quarter that gave the Bayou Bengals an 11-point halftime advantage. Mizzou outrebounded LSU, 40-23, and cut the deficit to two on four different occasions in the final four minutes, but could not complete the comeback. The loss snaps a 13-game winning streak for Mizzou, which matched the longest winning streak in program history.

Turning Point

With Mizzou up 15-13 with 6:12 left to play in the second quarter, LSU's Khayla Pointer drained one of her three 3-pointers on the night to give LSU a 16-15 lead. The trey launched a 14-0 run for LSU that swung the momentum. LSU made 4-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc in the frame. After a triple and a jumper from Chloe Jackson, the Tigers in purple and gold pushed in front 32-17. Mizzou went into the locker room trailing 32-21 at the half. Despite a late-game push by Mizzou, LSU would lead the rest of the game.
