COLUMBIA, S.C. - Mizzou Men's Basketball (11-3, 1-0 SEC) used a barrage of three-pointers to fuel a 79-68 victory at South Carolina (9-5, 0-2 SEC) to open Southeastern Conference play on Wednesday. The Tigers sank 14 three-pointers in the win, their 10th time this season draining at least 10 three-pointers in a game.
Four Tigers scored in double-figures to lead the Tigers, led by senior guard Kassius Robertson (Toronto, Ontario), who recorded his third straight 20-point game with 23 points. Senior forward Jordan Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded his ninth-straight game in double-figures with 19 points, while freshman forward Jontay Porter (Columbia, Mo.) scored a season-best 19 points and junior guard Jordan Geist (Fort Wayne, Ind.) added 10 points.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou made nine of its 16 three-point attempts in the first half, as the Tigers carried a 39-27 lead heading into the break. A three-pointer from Robertson with 1:17 left in the first half gave Mizzou its biggest lead of the first frame at 39-23. Barnett connected on four three-pointers in the half, while Robertson and Porter each had three.
TOP TIGERS
- Robertson paced the Tigers with his third-straight contest with at least 20 points, scoring 23 points (6-12 FG, 4-of-8 3PT, 7-of-8 FT) while snagging two steals.
- Robertson made four three-pointers for the 11th time this season and the 74th time in his career he has made multiple three-pointers.
- Barnett continued his impressive play over the last nine games, scoring 19 points (6-of-9 FG, 4-of-6 3PT, 3-of-3 FT) while grabbing two rebounds. During Barnett's nine-game double-digit stretch, he is averaging 18.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
- Porter reset his season-high with 19 points (5-of-9 FG, 5-of-7 3PT, 4-of-4 FT), the fifth time this season he has reached double-figures in scoring. The Tiger freshman also recorded seven rebounds and four blocks. His 32 blocks on the season are now two away from tying Doug Smith (34, 1987-88) for the third-highest freshman single-season blocks total in program history.
