@MizzouBaseball Walks it Off in Bottom of 13th to Claim Series win Over UMBC

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore 1B Kameron Misner (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning as Mizzou Baseball pushed its winning streak to four games with a 6-5 win over Maryland-Baltimore Country Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou moves to 9-3 on the year while UMBC falls to 1-5. Junior RHP Nile Ball (Decatur, Ga.) earned the win, his first of the season.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore 1B Kameron Misner (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning as Mizzou Baseball pushed its winning streak to four games with a 6-5 win over Maryland-Baltimore Country Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou moves to 9-3 on the year while UMBC falls to 1-5. Junior RHP Nile Ball (Decatur, Ga.) earned the win, his first of the season.

The Tigers entered the bottom half of the 13th having just surrendered the go-ahead run in the top half of the frame. Sophomore SS Chris Cornelius (St. Louis, Mo.) was hit by a pitch to open Mizzou's half and he stole second base. Freshman Mark Vierling (St. Louis, Mo.) was then hit by a pitch and leadoff man Connor Brumfield (Columbia, Mo.) bunted them over. Trey Harris (Powder Springs, Ga.) then hit an infield single to tie the game before Misner blooped a single inside the left field line to plate the winning run.

TOP TIGERS

  • Junior LHP Michael Plassmeyer was tremendous in his third start of the season, going 6.0+ innings with just six hits allowed. He struck out four and walked just one and surrendered two runs on two hits. He has now struck out 25 batters in just 17.0 innings this season.
  • Senior C Brett Bond hit his first homer of the season. He was one of three Tigers with two hits Saturday, joining Trey Harris and Kameron Misner.
  • Sophomore 1B Kameron Misner hit his second triple in as many days, driving in a run in the two-run first inning. He went 2-for-5 with a run, two RBI and two walks in t he win.
  • Senior 2B Matt Berler drove in a run with his first double of the season in the fourth inning.  

NOTES

  • Mizzou now leads the all-time series with UMBC, 2-0.
  • Mizzou is now 3-1 on Saturdays this season.
  • Mizzou is now 5-1 when scoring in the first inning this season and has scored in the first inning this season and has done so in three straight games.
  • Freshman Cade Bormet stole his first career base Saturday.
  • Senior C Brett Bond hit his first homer of the season Saturday, a solo shot in the third inning.
  • Saturday was Mizzou's first one-run game of the season as it is now 1-0 in such games.
  • Mizzou played its first extra-inning game of 2018. Mizzou is now 1-0 in such contests.
  • Trey Harris turned in his team-leading fifth multi-hit game of the season Saturday while Kameron Misner tallied his fourth. Misner now leads the team with three multi-RBI games this season.
  • The walk-off hit was Misner's second career walk-off winner.
  • Brett Bond posted his third multi-hit game of the year.
