COLUMBIA, MO. – No. 31 Mizzou Tennis (8-2) is set for its first home match of the season after starting 2017 with 10 straight road matches. The Tigers welcome Louisiana Tech (6-4) to the Mizzou Tennis Complex on Saturday. First serve is set for 12 p.m. and admission is free.
ROAD WARRIORS
- Mizzou is coming home after a 10 match road trip taking them through five different states. The Tigers played 10 matches over a span of 21 days and seemed to get better as the trip went on, winning their last four matches, three of which came in the form of 4-0 shutouts.
- The Tigers strong play resulted in a No. 31 ranking in the ITA National Team Rankings. That is the highest ranking for Mizzou since joining the SEC.
- Senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) is coming off of her strongest weekend of the year, posting a 5-0 record in all matches. She won two singles matches and all three of her doubles matches with fellow senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). The senior duo comes into play this week with a 6-0 record this season, beating opponents by an overall score of 37-16.
- The Tigers have remarkable depth this year due, in large part, to the play of freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.). Schroeder leads all players on the team with a 7-1 record in singles play this spring and is tied for second on the team with 21 overall victories.
- The other Tiger with 21 overall wins is also a freshman, Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) Middlebrooks has a 5-1 record this spring including a dramatic 7-6(9), 4-6, 7-5 singles victory over BYU to clinch the dual win.
- Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) is coming off of an undefeated weekend, as she went 3-0 overall in Minneapolis. Lashway moved into the No. 1 singles position and responded with a victory over Minnesota's Caroline Ryba, 6-2, 6-3.
- Junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) also finished the weekend 3-0, getting a pair of doubles wins with Schroeder at No. 3. Ismail comes into this weekend with a team-best 25 overall victories to her name.
SCOUTING LOUISIANA TECH
- The Bulldogs enter play this weekend with a 6-4 record, 1-0 in Conference USA play.
- Louisiana Tech has relied on strong singles play to get its wins as six of seven players hold a singles record at or above .500.
- Two of Louisiana Tech's four losses have come to ranked opponents. They fell 7-0 to both No. 5 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Texas A&M earlier in the year.
