Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Geist Scores 28 as @MizzouHoops Rolls Green Bay, 100-77

Tigers extend winning streak to three games with big win

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Basketball won its third-straight game on Saturday night at Mizzou Arena, running away from Green Bay, 100-77. Head coach Cuonzo Martin's squad exploded offensively, scoring 100 points in a game for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

The offense was again propelled by the three-point shot, as the Black & Gold sank 14 field goals from downtown, matching a season-high. The Tigers were led by junior guard Jordan Geist (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who scored a career-high and team season-high 28 points off the bench in what was perhaps the best game of his career. Normally regarded for his hustle and defense, Geist was nearly unstoppable offensively for the Tigers, going 11-for-14 from the field and 5-for-8 from three-point territory.

Turning Point

With each side exchanging baskets throughout the first half, the Tigers needed a spark to pull away from the Phoenix. That momentum came in the form of junior guard Jordan Geist, who scored 11 points during a 31-13 Mizzou run that would close the first half. Geist's shooting form was on full display during the extended Mizzou spurt, as he did not miss a shot, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field over that period. Geist would finish the half with a career-high-matching 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and Mizzou would take a commanding 60-40 lead into the locker room. Green Bay would never again get within 14 points.

Top Tigers

  • Senior forward Jordan Barnett continued his hot scoring streak, scoring 19 points to get into double-figures for the fifth game in a row.
  • Freshman forward Jeremiah Tilmon recorded the first double-double of his young Mizzou career, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
  • Freshman forward Jontay Porter's block party continued, as he turned away five shots on the night, tying his season-high. Porter also chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.
  • Freshman guard Blake Harris played a solid all-around game, scoring eight points, grabbing six rebounds, dishing three assists and nabbing three steals.

Notes

  • Mizzou scored 100 points for the first time since December, 17, 2012, against South Carolina State.
  • As a team, Mizzou made 14 three-pointers, tying a season-best set against St. John's (Nov. 24). It was the seventh time this season Mizzou has made double-digit threes. The Tigers are 6-1 in such games.
  • Mizzou set a new season-low with eight turnovers against Green Bay.
  • Freshman forward Jeremiah Tilmon recorded his first career double-double, scoring 12 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.
  • Tilmon set a new season-high for rebounds with 11. He had seven boards in the first half alone. He gathered seven offensive rebounds, the most for any Mizzou player this season.
  • Junior guard Jordan Geist connected on a season-high three three-pointers in the first half, while shooting 87.5 percent from the field.
  • That incredible shooting from Geist allowed him to tie his career high for points, 18, after just the first half of play. Geist went on to score 28 points on 78.6 percent shooting (11-14), both career-highs.
  • Geist's 28 points were the most by any Mizzou player this season, and the most since then-sophomore forward Kevin Puryear scored 30 against Auburn (March 8, 2017).
  • Senior forward Jordan Barnett tied his career-high for three-pointers made with five. The effort was Barnett's third career, and second consecutive game of five made triples.
  • Freshman forward Jontay Porter finished the night with five blocks, tying his season-high. This was the fourth time this season Porter has recorded three or more blocks and second time to record five (Nov. 26 vs. West Virginia).
