Postgame Quotes
Mizzou Head Coach Cuonzo Martin
Opening statement…
“Good game. Good win. Good team. I told our guys it’ll be a fast game, and they’ll do everything to try to score 100 points. They play fast, and they do a great job of it. They can put you in tough spots, because of their ability to stretch you out; they have five guys who can shoot the ball. I thought our guys pushed the ball, pressured the defense. That helped us out.”
On Geist’s night…
“I’ve seen him make shots, but that was what was presented to him. He was shot ready. The ball was there, he shot it. We expect him to shoot the ball when he’s open, and the shots were there for him. He’s always played with a level of toughness and confidence. I’m happy for him. He scored the points. He put the work in. I’ll definitely take this over him having turnovers. He earned it.”
On Tilmon’s game…
“With him, he loves challenges. I always try to tell him it’s not a wrestling match, it’s a basketball game. I have to tell him to keep his composure. Like that offensive foul, he was kicking up some dust around there, so he had something to do with it.”
Mizzou junior guard Jordan Geist
On the starting point guard spot…
“We (Blake Harris and I) know that we’re both going to be able to play and do what we do. It doesn’t matter to me if I’m coming off the bench, or if I’m starting and I know it doesn’t matter to him either. We just want to get that win.”
On the team’s defensive play…
“Defensively, we let up 40 points in the first half and we’re not very proud of that. We pride ourselves in defense, so that’s something we really focused on at halftime.”
Mizzou senior forward Jordan Barnett
On Jeremiah Tilmon’s night…
“I think he was just what we usually need him to be. He was extremely aggressive and unstoppable on the glass. He had seven offensive rebounds, so that says a lot. He did his job and he is continually getting better and especially in staying out of foul trouble.”
On Jordan Geist…
“I think he’s doing a much better job of picking his spots. Last year, I think at times, he would force shots and this year, I think he’s doing a much better job of that and playing within himself. I think it all manifested tonight. He was un-guardable essentially, at 28 (points) he was that fire that we needed to get going and it really helped us.”
