Mizzou Opens Southeastern Conference Play with Road Test at Alabama

  • Mizzou is looking for its second consecutive SEC-opening victory and third such win since 2012-13.
  • Mizzou has spent all eight weeks of the season in the Top 25 in the AP poll. The Tigers spent just seven weeks ranked all of last season. Since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign, Mizzou has spent 23 weeks in the Top 25. Mizzou's current No. 16 ranking is the highest in the Pingeton era.
  • Mizzou is one of eight teams in the nation that rank in the Top 22 in both field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense (alongside Baylor, Duke, West Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Iowa and Oregon State). The Tigers are 22nd in the Division I in field goal percentage, shooting 46.9 percent, and 18th in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to 34.1 percent shooting.
  • The Tigers are riding a 12-game win streak, their longest since securing 13 straight victories from Nov. 13, 2015 to Jan. 29, 2015. This is the second win streak of 12 or more games since Pingeton took over the program. It's just the fifth win streak of 12 or more games in program history. A win Sunday would give Mizzou its third win streak of 13 or more games.
  • With the win over Illinois, Mizzou has now won 52 consecutive nonconference regular season home games, with the last loss coming to Northwestern on Dec. 3, 2011. The Tigers have won 38 consecutive nonconference games at Mizzou Arena, falling to Eastern Illinois in the Postseason WNIT on March 20, 2013. Those are the longest such streaks in program history.
  • Sophie Cunningham ranks first in the SEC and ninth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 50 percent. She is 16-of-26 from beyond the arc over the last four games. In that span, she is shooting 68.1 percent from the floor, 61.5 from 3-point range and 91.3 percent from the free throw line and scoring 25.3 points per game.
  • Cunningham is arguably the most efficient player in the SEC this season. She is one of seven players in the league who have scored more than 240 points. The other six have attempted more than 180 shots this season. Cunningham has only attempted 132. She leads the SEC in free throw pct. (.864) and 3-point field goal pct. among those with at least 30 attempts (.500).
  • Mizzou allows the fewest rebounds per game in the SEC, as opponents grab just 29.9 per game. Mizzou ranks second in the nation in that category.

Mizzou vs. Alabama

  • Mizzou and Alabama continue their tight series (which the Tigers lead 5-4) after splitting a pair of games a year ago. Both teams won on the road in the series in 2017.
  • Mizzou prevailed in the most recent meeting and is 3-1 all-time in Tuscaloosa.
