ORLANDO, Fla. -Â Back in the Sunshine State after playing in the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando over the Thanksgiving weekend, Mizzou Men's Basketball (6-2, 0-0 SEC) pulled out a road victory over UCF (4-3, 0-0 AAC), 62-59, on Thursday night at CFE Arena.
Mizzou's upperclassmen paved the way for the Tigers, as senior guard
Kassius Robertson (Toronto, Ontario) and senior forward
Jordan Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) each scored 19 points. Robertson was lethal from beyond the three-point arc, sinking five threes, while Barnett connected on 3-of-4 from past the charity stripe in the game's final minute to seal the win for the Tigers.
Â
Turning Point
Â
With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, Robertson picked the pocket of a UCF ball handler, then advanced the ball up the court to a streaking Barnett, who took off just a few feet inside the free throw line for a thunderous one-handed slam. After finding it a struggle to shoot from the field for the majority of the half, the dunk put the Tigers within three points, 21-18 with 3:37 left in the half, and caused the Knights to call a timeout.
Â
After the break, Robertson then tied the score with a triple, and then a few possessions later, freshman forward
Jontay Porter (Columbia, Mo.) grabbed an offensive rebound while saving the ball from going out-of-bounds. The Porter pass found junior guard
Cullen VanLeer (Pacific, Mo.), who swung the ball to Robertson, who drained another three-pointer to give the Tigers the lead, 24-21, with 1:57 left in the game.
Â
Mizzou would not trail in the game again.
