COLUMBIA, MO. - Mizzou junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) had a strong day two at the Mizzou Invite and secured three match wins to lead Mizzou Tennis on Saturday at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Tigers clinched five match wins as a team. Mizzou earned doubles victories against pairings from Louisville and Memphis in the morning session and three singles wins against Nebraska in the afternoon session.
Ismail, along with her partner senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) took home two doubles victories in the morning session, both at the No. 2 position. The first win came against the No. 2 doubles pair from Louisville, 6-1. The second win came via a 6-2 victory over the No. 2 doubles duo from Memphis.
The two doubles wins gave Santos her 98th and 99th career overall victories. She will have a chance to get career win number 100 during her matches Sunday.
Ismail went on to win her No. 5 singles matchup with Hayley Haakenstad of Nebraska, 7-5, 6-2. In her last four matches, Ismail has won 37 of the 46 games and claimed four victories. She is currently tied for the team lead in wins for the tournament thus far with junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.).
Lashway won her singles match at the No. 2 position, coming back to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Lashway, along with Ismail, is 2-0 in singles play this weekend. Lashway has clinched three of her four set wins this weekend via tiebreaker.
Freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) earned her first collegiate victory with an impressive 6-4, 6-2 match over Nebraska's Lisa Andersson at the No. 4 singles spot. Schroeder used her powerful serve and vicious backhand to put together her first of many wins at this level.
