
Lashway Finishes 3-0 to Lead Tigers on Day One of Mizzou Invite

Mizzou claimed six total wins as a team on the opening day of action
KANSAS CITY, MO. - Mizzou Tennis earned six victories during the first day of the Mizzou Invite at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo. Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) finished her day undefeated (3-0) with two doubles wins and a victory at the No. 2 singles spot.
Lashway was paired with freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) during the first doubles session of the day. Together, they defeated the No. 3 doubles team from Nebraska 6-4. Lashway and Middlebrooks fell down 0-3 to start the set, but won six of the next seven games to secure the win and clinch the first collegiate victory for Middlebrooks.
Lashway continued her doubles dominance in the second doubles session. The team of Lashway and senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) defeated the No. 1 doubles pairing out of Louisville, 6-1.
Mizzou secured four singles wins out of seven matches in the afternoon session, including wins by Lashway, Middlebrooks, Spearman and junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio). Lashway gutted out an impressive win at the No. 2 singles position, besting Hanna Sohn of Memphis in two tiebreaker sets, 7-6(4), 7-6(3). Ismail dominated her matchup at No. 5 singles, winning in straight sets without ever losing a game, 6-0, 6-0. Not to be outdone, Middlebrooks won her second match of the day in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 singles. Finally, Spearman rounded out the Tigers' victories with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win over Gabrielle Paul from Memphis in the No. 4 singles matchup.
Mizzou looks to keep the victories coming as the Mizzou Invite continues on day two of the three-day event. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 24 at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
