Tigers begin SEC competition next Wednesday at the Hearnes Center
ST. LOUIS – Mizzou Volleyball dropped its first match of the season Wednesday inside Chaifetz Pavilion as they fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) to Saint Louis.
"Credit goes to Saint Louis as they came out firing from the get go tonight," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "It was a great crowd inside Chaifetz and they used a lot of momentum from them. We're disappointed in the loss tonight, but I'm very proud of how our team fared during the nonconference schedule."
Mizzou was stricken by seven errors in the opening set, ultimately leading to a 1-0 advantage by Saint Louis. Redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) produced three kills on .600 hitting despite the Tigers dropping their first set.
The Tigers and Billikens traded points early and often in the second set. With the set later tied at 17 apiece, Saint Louis used an 8-5 run to take a 2-0 overall advantage. Similar to the opening set, Mizzou struggled with attack and service errors and opened the door for the Billikens.
Saint Louis continued its efficient hitting in the third set as Mizzou failed to gain momentum all night. The Billikens ended the evening with 44 kills on .333 hitting.
Junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a team-leading 12 kills for Mizzou, while sophomore Courtney Eckenrode (The Woodlands, Texas) paced the team with 21 assists.
