Junior Carly Kan earns third consecutive tournament MVP honors, finishes with 72 kills in three matches
BOONE, N.C. – Mizzou Volleyball took top honors at an early season tournament for the third consecutive weekend, after defeating Liberty 3-1 Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center. Behind yet another tournament MVP performance by junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii), the Tigers improved to 9-0 on the season.
"We faced adversity early after dropping the first set, but our ladies responded in a big way and took the last three sets," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "You can't help but be impressed by Carly's excellent weekend, as she was the driving force for our team in each match. I'm real pleased with our team's effort and focus in these first three tournaments."
Kan tallied 20-plus kills in each of Mizzou's three contests this weekend. After setting a new career-high in kills with 26 against Appalachian State on Friday, the junior once again reached that number today against Liberty. Kan has six 20-plus kill matches in the Tigers' nine total contests.
Joining the Honolulu native on the Appalachian State All-Tournament Team were redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and freshman Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.). Larson joins Kan as being a three-time All-Tournament Team honoree so far this season. Today's honor was the second All-Tournament nod for Munlyn.
The Tigers recorded a .343 team hitting percentage, marking their seventh .300-plus hitting effort on the season.
