Junior Carly Kan earns tournament MVP honors following outstanding weekend
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball closed out its 2015 Tiger Invitational Saturday evening inside the Hearnes Center with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) sweep of North Texas.
"That was an outstanding finale for our team tonight, as we continued to get better each match this weekend," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "Our team hitting percentage increased substantially every time out, capped by an impressive .411 number against North Texas. This was a great way to start the season, and we'll now begin preparation for next weekend's South Florida Invitational."
Junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii), redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.), and freshman Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) were each named to the All-Tournament Team for their standout weekends.
Kan was named MVP of this weekend's tournament, as she earned 50 kills on .430 hitting with 31 digs in three matches.
After cruising to a 2-0 set advantage against North Texas, the Tigers sealed the match with 15 kills on .583 hitting in the third and final set. Munlyn and junior Emily Thater (Springfield, Mo.) each had three kills on .750 hitting in the match clinching set.
Up next for Mizzou is the team's first road trip of the 2015 campaign. As a part of the South Florida Invitational, the Tigers will face Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 4, followed by Arkansas State and South Florida on Sept. 5.
