Mizzou Volleyball Opens 2015 Season With Tiger Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball kicks off its 2015 season this weekend at the Hearnes Center with the 20th annual Tiger Invitational. The Tigers will be joined by North Dakota State, North Texas, and Winthrop for the two-day invite.
Mizzou begins action on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first serve against North Dakota State. Saturday brings a pair of contests to close out the invite for the Tigers, as they face Winthrop at 12:30 p.m. and North Texas at 6:30 p.m.
All three Mizzou Volleyball matches will be broadcast live on SEC Network + via WatchESPN. Fans can also follow the action all weekend long on Twitter (@MizzouVB).
Adult tickets are available for $5, while youth and senior tickets are available for $3. The Hearnes Center Ticket Offices will open to the public 1.5 hours prior to each match. Fans who attend all three Mizzou matches will receive a "Tournament MVP" prize pack, including a Mizzou Volleyball #GRIT bracelet and Mizzou Volleyball tumbler cup.
QUICK DIGS
- The Tigers are led this year by back-to-back AVCA All-American, Carly Kan. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native led the nation in combined kills (418) and digs (394) a season ago.
- Kan also gained national recognition this past summer, as she competed for Team USA at the USA Volleyball World University Games for the second straight summer.
- Head Coach Wayne Kreklow welcomes an exciting mix of eight returners and six newcomers (three transfers and three freshmen) to this year's Tiger roster.
- Since taking over the program in 2000, the Kreklows have guided Mizzou Volleyball to 11 NCAA Tournament trips in 15 seasons.
TEAM GOLD CLAIMS 3-0 SWEEP AT ANNUAL B&G SCRIMMAGE
Team Gold was triumphant in Mizzou Volleyball's annual Black & Gold Scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Hearnes Center. Gold defeated Black (25-16, 25-23, 25-23) in an exciting intrasquad contest in front of 1,642 Tiger fans.
Junior Julia Towler had an outstanding night, as she racked up 19 kills for Team Gold. Newcomers Kira Larson and Alyssa Munlyn also impressed in the scrimmage, totaling 10 and six kills, respectively.
Junior Carly Kan paced Team Gold, as she finished with the squad's most kills (13) and points (16.0). Mizzou's setting duo also stood out, with sophomore Ali Kreklow recording 28 assists and sophomore Courtney Eckenrode producing 35 assists.
UP NEXT
Following this weekend's Tiger Invitational, the Tigers hit the road for three consecutive early season invites. Up first is a visit to Tampa, Fla., for the 2015 South Florida Invitational. Mizzou opens the weekend with a matchup against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
A day later on Sunday, Sept. 5, the Tigers face Arkansas State at 10 a.m. and conclude their visit with a matchup against South Florida at 6:30 p.m.
