
Mizzou Gymnastics Closes the Season with Year-End Banquet

The senior class bids farewell after successful careers
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou Gymnastics team hosted its end-of-the-year banquet on Saturday night at Mizzou Arena's Clinton Club. Coming off of a strong season under the second-year coaching staff of Shannon Welker, Casey Jo MacPherson and John Carney, it was a celebration of many accomplishments both athletically and academically. The Tigers qualified for NCAA Regional competition for the first time since 2012 and scored a 196.15, which stands as the second-highest Regional tally in program history. The team finished the season ranked 21st in the nation, moving up 20 spots from 2014 for a record-setting jump.
Several Tigers were honored with awards throughout the night. The Co-Scholar Athletes of the Year were Katelyn Trevino and Becca Johnson for their hard work in the classroom. The Co-Newcomers of the Year were Shauna Miller and Becca Schugel who both came on strong in their rookie seasons. Trevino was given the Most Improved award and the Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year award. Briana Conkle received the inaugural Championship Culture award, as someone who embodies the core values of Mizzou Gymnastics. The Most Valuable Gymnast was senior Laura Kappler for her impressive contribution to the team, competing in 47 of 52 possible events this season and scoring 9.8 or better 29 times.
The senior class bid farewell to the team after a remarkable season and overall career. It was an exciting and emotional night for the Mizzou Gymnastics program.
