BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Becca Johnson of the Mizzou gymnastics team was named to the 2015 Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Community Service Team, the league office announced on March 20.
Johnson has been a familiar face in the Columbia community since she arrived at Mizzou in the 2011. A native of Pewaukee, Wis., Johnson has spent much of her free time at the Ronald McDonald House, The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri, Reach Out and Read and Jumpstart's Read for the Record. She has also participated in multiple Walk to End Alzheimer's events, Mizzou Moves, Race for the Cure, Voluntary Action Center Adopt-a-Family, and been a Special Olympics buddy. Johnson is a two-time member of the Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll and a recipient of the Three Stripes Award in January.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all league sponsored sports. The Community Service team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
Joining Johnson on the team are Lauren Beers (Alabama), Heather Elswick (Arkansas), Caryn Kadous (Auburn), Bianca Dancose-Giambattsto (Florida), Demetria Hunte (Georgia), Montana Whittle (Kentucky) and Jessie Jordan (LSU).
