Mizzou Run-Rules Lipscomb, 10-2 in Six Innings

RALEIGH, N.C. - A career-high 10-strikeout performance by freshman LHP Paige Lowary (Dallas Center, Iowa), combined with plenty of offensive firepower, pushed the #19/20 Missouri Tigers to a 10-2 win in a run-rule shortened six innings over Lipscomb in game two of MU's day at the N.C. State Hyatt Place Invitational.
The victory extended Mizzou's current win streak to nine, and combined with a 7-5 win earlier in the day against Fordham, improved the Tigers to 17-3 overall while Lipscomb fell to 9-11.
Lowary struck out the side in each of the first two innings, but Lipscomb strung together three singles in between in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead. All three of those hits came with two strikes on the Lipscomb batters. She would finish the day having gone 5.0 innings, scattering five hits while allowing one earned run and no walks. Lowary was dominant early as her first eight outs recorded in the game came via strikeout, as she improved to 9-0 on the season.
But the Tigers wouldn't trail long, as they took the lead for good in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by sophomore C Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.), which directly followed a one-out walk by senior 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.). It was Mack's fourth long ball of the season and gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Next it was Mizzou's home run leader, junior 2B Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) to chime in, as she launched a big fly to right center with one out in the third for a 4-1 lead. It was Fagan's team-high sixth homer of the season, and it scored junior CF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.), who singled and stole second to lead off the inning.
The Tigers blew the game open in their half of the fourth, on bases-loaded walks to junior RF Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) and Fagan, followed by a two-run single by senior SS Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.), all of which made it 8-1.
Each team would tally a single unearned run in the fifth inning before Genovese ended the game with a single to left in the bottom of the sixth to score Crane, who opened the inning with a walk, and invoke the mercy rule. Fagan's three RBI led the Tigers, pushing her team-leading season total to 27, while Roth (2-for-2, 2 runs, 1 double, 1 walk), Mack (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run, 1 home run) and Genovese (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 stolen base) also led the way offensively.
The Tigers will play two more games in the tournament Saturday (Binghamton at 12:30 p.m./North Carolina State at 5 p.m.), before wrapping up the five-game, three-day outing with an early-morning Sunday game against Longwood (8:30 a.m.).
