Gymnastics Falls to No. 3 LSU on the Road

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Mizzou gymnastics team continued its three meet road stretch with a 197.350-192.725 loss at No. 3 LSU Friday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Missouri fell to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the Southeastern Conference, while LSU improved to 3-0 and 2-0.
The squad opened the meet with a 47.700 on the event, bolstered by senior Becca Johnson's season best 9.850. The score was just 0.05 away from her career high and was good enough to tie her for third overall on the apparatus. Classmate Katelyn Trevino posted a 9.700 as well.
On vault, freshman Shauna Miller paced the team with a 9.750 on the event. Senior Laura Kappler, sophomore Angie Kern and freshman Becca Schugel all notched 9.700s, as Mizzou tallied a 48.525 in the rotation.
In the third rotation, Kappler posted a team best 9.700 on floor as the Tigers went 47.825 on the event. Sophomore Alyson Heimsath had Mizzou's second leading tally with a 9.600 in the leadoff spot.
Mizzou closed the night with a strong rotation on beam after a 48.625 on the event. Miller led the way with a career best 9.850, 0.025 better than her score in the opening meet of the season. Kappler tied her career high with a 9.825 to complete another solid meet for the senior, while freshman Tia Allbritten also had career best-tying 9.725.
Mizzou returns to action on Friday, Jan. 30 in the State of Missouri Meet against host SEMO and Lindenwood at 6:30 p.m. CT.
