Fayetteville, Ark. -
Freshman Jordan Frericks closed out the regular season with a career-high 18 points, but it wasn't enough to top the Razorbacks. The Tigers fell to Arkansas 72-70 in Fayetteville on Sunday, March 2. Missouri falls to 17-12 overall and 6-10 in SEC play this season. Morgan Eye also had a strong game for the Tigers, knocking down a team-leading 20 points and grabbing four rebounds in the contest.
The second half of play kept the Tigers and the Razorbacks on their toes as the two teams traded the lead several times throughout the half. Arkansas tried to run away with the game, going on a 15-2 lead with seven minutes left in the game. The Tigers wouldn't let them, however, as Mizzou knocked down seven consecutive free throws to stay in the game. The Tigers trailed by just one point as the final seconds ticked away, and a last second three-pointer came up just short to give Mizzou the win.
Mizzou held Arkansas to less than 40-percent shooting in the game, and just 16.7 percent from distance. The Tigers outscored the Razorbacks 38-33 in the second half, and were able to score 17 points off Arkansas turnovers.
Icy weather conditions didn't keep Arkansas senior Keira Peak from coming out ready to play the Tigers on her senior day. Peak led the Razorbacks to a 39-32 first-half lead with 16 points before the break. The Tigers fought hard through the first half, tying things up a few times throughout the course of the half thanks to several well-timed buckets from freshman Jordan Frericks. She tallied 13 first-half points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead Mizzou. The Tigers shot better than 55-percent from distance in the first half and keeping the Razorbacks from knocking down a single three-pointer. The Tigers also held their own on the glass, grabbing 18 rebounds, the same as the Razorbacks.
Next up, the Tigers head to the SEC Tournament. The tournament begins on Wednesday, March 5 and will continue until the Championship game on March 9. Games played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be televised on Fox Sports SportSouth, and the final rounds on Saturday and Sunday will air on ESPNU.
