
Tigers Claw Ahead of Milwaukee Panthers

Columbia, Mo.- Mizzou Women's Basketball improved to 4-1 on the season with Sunday's 68-55 win over the Milwaukee Panthers. Redshirt sophomore guard Lindsey Cunningham knocked down a career-high 12 points and grabbed a career-best seven rebounds, helping to lift the Tigers over the Panthers.
Milwaukee put up a fight in the first half, taking an early 3-2 lead over the Tigers, but a 13-0 Mizzou run with under 15 minutes in the half put the Tigers up by 11. The Tigers pulled ahead by 16 thanks to a three-pointer from Maddie Stock less than a minute before the halftime buzzer. The 16-point advantage marked Mizzou's largest lead of the first half.
The Tigers led a balanced scoring attack in the half as four Tigers put up five or more points led by Lindsey Cunningham's seven points. Defensively, the Tigers held Milwaukee to just 30-percent shooting, 9-of-29, and 25 percent from distance. The Tigers snatched six steals in the first half, just one less than their total of seven against both UNLV and California. Mizzou finished with eight steals overall.
The Panthers came back in the second half, going on an 8-0 run to cut the Tiger lead to six. The two teams traded baskets before Mizzou was able to pull away using points from the charity stripe.
Overall, Mizzou was tough on the glass, outrebounding Milwaukee 51-30. The Tigers grabbed 37 defensive rebounds and forced 15 Panther turnovers. Mizzou held Milwaukee to just 33-percent shooting in the game, and kept the Panthers' leading scorer, Ashley Green, under wraps only allowing her 14 points in the game.
