Four Tigers Join Letterman's Club at Mizzou

Oct. 2, 2014

Columbia, Mo- Earning a Varsity Letter is a very special accomplishment for every student-athlete at Mizzou. Each year, the Varsity M Association holds a letter jacket ceremony to present Mizzou letter winners from each sport with their Letter jackets.

This year, four Women's Basketball players were recognized at the ceremony. Lindsey Cunningham, Kayla McDowell, Jordan Frericks and Sierra Michaelis earned their jackets after a strong performance in the 2013-14 season.

"Getting the jacket reminded me of all the memories that were made this past year," McDowell said. "I am so excited to be able to wear the jacket for the next three years. It's exciting to join this exclusive group and wear my jacket with pride."

Not only do these four ladies become members of an exclusive group of current Mizzou student-athletes, but they join many alumni who also wear their jackets with pride. For Cunningham, those alumni also include her parents.

"I've seen the letter jackets of my folks, and I take a lot of pride in being able to carry on that tradition within my family," Cunningham said. "The athletes that I grew up watching wear this same jacket and that's an honor."

"I love the jacket and what it represents," Micahelis said. "It's a badge of honor and pride. I'm thankful to have that M over my heart."

Not only do these Tigers appreciate their letter jackets, but the ceremony was also a special night for everyone involved.

"It's a great opportunity to be able to have a special ceremony with other teammates and athletes who have accomplished the same goals," Frericks said. "It's an honor to be able to represent Mizzou with these jackets."

You can catch Frericks, McDowell, Cunningham and Michaelis this season as the Tigers prepare to kick off the 2014-15 season with an exhibition contest against Lindenwood on Nov. 5. Stay tuned to MUTigers.com for all the latest on Mizzou Women's Basketball.
