MIZZOU PLAYER QUOTES
On being prepared for Friday's game...
"I think with each exhibition game, I've become a little more confident. Even in practices, just getting a feel for the teammates, and my teammates; the chemistry is coming together as the weeks go on."
On having an opportunity to play right away...
"I've always said I'm going to compete for playing time, and that was my goal coming in to play whatever role the team needs me to play. But, obviously I want to be on the floor."
On increased number of three-point attempts in second exhibition game...
"I think that's just us as a shooting team. We also, as a team, get up extra shots out of practice during the week. In this past week we all just really got in the gym and got our shots up. I think it really showed in the game tonight.
On playing one-on-one games with her sister, Morgan...
"When we were younger we'd play all the time, but we'd start getting mad at each other and arguing. So my parents started saying no to the one-on-one games for a while, and we haven't really played any in a while."
MIZZOU HEAD COACH Robin Pingeton
Opening Statement
"We had some really good looks and weren't able to knock them down and I felt like that impacted our defensive intensity, and that's something we addressed before the game even started. We said let's not allow our offense to dictate our defense and I thought it did in that first half. But there were a lot of positives I was really proud of the way they came out after halftime. Our goal tonight was 16 or less turnovers we had 13. Again 16 assists I think we're moving the ball very well. Our subs were able to outscore their subs I think that's a testament to the kind of depth that we have. But there's certainly some areas that we have to continue to work on which is pretty typical of this time of the year."
On Kayla McDowell's play tonight...
"Yeah both her and Jordan I think their versatility, their ranginess, they're competitors, I think they've got a very good feel for the game especially considering their freshman and so I definitely think they get can go get rebounds on both ends so that's definitely going to be an added bonus this season."
On the physicality of the game tonight...
"Yeah it did seem at times that it got a little bit physical, but you know we go against a scout team every day in practice. Our scout team is really good this year. I thought they were good last year, but they're just a group of guys that we might even need to tone it back a little bit because they get after it pretty consistently and do a great job. I think that helps prepare our kids for game situations. We talked before the game even started and talked about they've got some height and size inside that we haven't gone against, but you know that's going to be pretty typical of what our freshman are going to see in the SEC and sprinkle in a little more athleticism so it was good for them to go against that physical play tonight."
On motivating Bri Kulas at the half...
"We had a nice little friendly chat you know senior to head coach and just really tried to challenge her. We're expecting her to carry a big load for us this year and it starts with her focus, her intensity, her toughness, and it felt like she wasn't where she needed to be in that first half. And I tell you what that's what great players do they respond. She didn't feel sorry for herself, she didn't hang her head, she put her shoulders back and kind of took it then went out there and did something about it. I'm really proud of her second half."
On the Stock twins on the court together...
"You know it'll be interesting to see how it all works itself out. I like the fact that we've got some added depth. I like the fact that we've got a team that I think we can try and extend our defense maybe a little bit more than we've done in the past, which will allow us to go deeper into our bench. So it'll be interesting to see how it all works itself out you know we're still trying to figure out lineups, rotations, and I think that's typically what you do in the preseason, nonconference, then once you get into conference you settle in a little bit. But there's still the question mark of how deep will we go into our bench once we start on Friday and I think that's yet to be determined."
