Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Basketball turned up the heat defensively, forcing 23 turnovers and allowing just 19 second-half points en route to a 71-42 victory over Quincy (Ill.) University on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
While the Missouri defense was stifling, nine Tigers found the scoring column, led by Maddie Stock, who poured in 12 points off the bench to help fuel Mizzou's 29-point win.
Stock's sister, Morgan Stock, actually provided Missouri's early offensive spark, tossing in a three-pointer immediately after checking in off the bench. She followed with another trey ball to give MU an early 16-8 advantage.
Quincy would respond to cut Missouri's lead down to one, 16-15. Guard Lucy Cramsey knocked down back-to-back buckets and Carly Bettencourt hit a trey to pull Quincy within one possession. That was as close as the visitors would get however as a three-point play from Jordan Frericks pushed Missouri's lead back to four and helped propel the Tigers to a comfortable lead at the break.
The second half featured the same trend for Missouri with Maddie Stock matching her twin sister's offensive success. Maddie hit a pair of quick treys and combined the sisters hit 46 percent of their shots (6-of-13) from long range. Overall Mizzou hit 11 three-pointers as a team.
Senior forward Bri Kulas joined Maddie Stock in double figures with 11. She scored nine of her points in the second half. Frericks finished with nine and Kayla McDowell narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Mizzou returns to the court on Friday (Nov. 8) when it opens the regular season at Saint Louis. The matchup with the Billikens tips off at 4:30 p.m.
