Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Basketball opened the 2013-14 home slate Sunday, earning a 59-48 victory over SIUE at Mizzou Arena to improve to 2-0 on the season. Forwards Bri Kulas and Jordan Frericks scored the first 10 points for Mizzou to start the second half, helping the Tigers pull away and establish a double-digit lead and coast to a home-opening win.
Sophomore Morgan Stock came off the bench in the second game of the season, knocking down two three-pointers and a jump shot to give the Tigers a quick 13-11 advantage in the first half. She finished the game with a career-high 15 points behind a 5-for-10 effort from the field.
The Tigers and the Cougars traded baskets for most of the first half until Mizzou put together a 7-0 run with seven minutes left. Sophomore point guard Lianna Doty assisted on two transition buckets and Kulas followed with a long ball to give the Tigers a 22-15 lead. Doty tallied eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals in 35 productive minutes of play.
