Columbia, Mo. - Hannah Lovelock has been Missouri's top performer all spring and on Friday the junior was the Big 12's top player, shooting a 1-under-par 71 to tie for an early lead after 18 holes of play at the 2011 Big 12 Championship at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
The 2011 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship is being played on the par-72, 6,234-yard Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Texas Tech (294) owns a two-shot lead over Texas (296) and a three shot advantage over Missouri (297) and Nebraska.
A junior from Surrey, England, Lovelock was incredibly steady. She fired three birdies, just two bogeys and 13 pars during a round that was dominated by poor weather. Conditions forced better than three hours in delays on Friday. The first tee times were pushed back three hours and golfers were pulled off the course shortly before 5 p.m. once again, but returned at 5:40 p.m.
Lovelock is tied with Texas Tech's Deborah DeVilla, Oklahoma's Chirapat Javanil, Texas' Madison Pressel and Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova for the early lead.
Mizzou also got balanced play from freshman Taylor Gohn, Nicola Race and Marissa Cook. Gohn and Race finished the first round with scores of 75 (+3), while Cook completed her first lap of Old Hawthorne with a 76.
Kate Gallagher, another of Missouri's talented young players, finished with an 80.
Because of the heavy rains on Friday, play on Saturday will be pushed back to 9 a.m. Teams will once again tee off holes No. 1 and No. 10 from 9-10:30 a.m.
