Columbia, Mo. -
Missouri Women's Golf shot a final-round 309, its best showing of the 54-hole Baylor Spring Invitational, to finish 11th overall at the 18-team event Tuesday afternoon in Waco, Texas.
The 2011 Baylor Spring Invitational was held at the par-72 Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco.
Missouri shot a three-round total of 942 (316-317-309) to top both SMU and Arkansas-Little Rock (946) in the team ledger. The Tigers knocked eight shots off their second-round score, highlighted by the play of freshman Kate Gallagher. The Savannah, Mo., native led all Tigers on Tuesday with a 4-over-par 76 to finish tied for 29th overall. She finished just one shot behind teammate Taylor Gohn, another freshman, who put together rounds of 78-76-78--232 to tie for 26th.
The top finishes by two freshmen is an encouraging sign for head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer's young club, as both players continue to play some of their best collegiate golf heading into next week's Big 12 Championship at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia.
Hannah Lovelock was the third Tiger to score, finishing tied for 51st with three-round scores of 84-76-78, while Ariana Savich, a third freshman, finished fourth on the club and 64th overall with a two-day 243.
The 2011 Big 12 Championships run April 22-24 at the Club at Old Hawthorne. The three-day event will feature 18 holes of golf each day and the public is encouraged to come out and watch some of the country's top collegiate golf.
