DES MOINES, Iowa - The Mizzou track and field program wrapped up day two at the USA Track & Field Championships (USATF) on Friday (June 25) at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, and received a nice performance from senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) in the men's decathlon. After the first five events in the decathlon, Adcock sits in seventh-place overall with 3,932 points, ranking him among some of the world's best decathletes.
Adcock began his day by clocking in at 11.13 in the 100m dash, finishing eighth in the event while earning 832 points. That time was just off of his season-best of 11.10, which he clocked at the Big 12 Championships. Next up for Adcock was the long jump where he leaped 6.88m (22-7) to add 785 points to his overall score as he finished 10th in the event.
The decathletes then moved to the shot put where Adcock threw 13.33m (43-9) to place seventh overall and add 687 points to his overall score. Adcock rounded out his day by clearing 1.96m (6-5) in the high jump and clocking in at 49.01 in the 400m dash to add 1,628 points to his overall score. After the first day, Adcock stands in seventh place and is the third-ranked collegiate at the meet with 3,932 points.
Professional decathlete Tom Pappas leads the overall competition with 4,234 points. The decathlon will resume tomorrow (June 26) at 10:30 a.m. with the running of the 110m hurdles, which is one of Adcock's strongest events.
Former Tiger Chris Rohr also competed in the hammer throw on Friday and finished 10th overall with a throw of 70.04m (231-1). Rohr fouled his first two attempts but was able to register a mark in his final attemp. Jake Freeman on NYAC won the event with a throw of 76.51m (251-0).
