COLUMBIA, Mo. - Sophomore Christine Flores posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the University of Missouri women's basketball team to a 81-50 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday night at Mizzou Arena. With the win, the Tigers improve to 8-2 on the season while the Golden Lady Lions fall to 1-8.
Flores posted a double-double for the second consecutive game with 19 points and 14 rebounds, both career bests. She also blocked three shots and shot 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Junior RaeShara Brown came close to a triple-double with nine points, nine rebounds and a career high seven steals, to go along with five assists. Junior Shakara Jones scored 13 points despite playing just 16 minutes.
The Golden Lady Lions went on top early as the team took an 8-4 advantage after Jasmine Blanks hit a jumper with 15:26 remaining in the first half. Seven consecutive points from Jones gave the Tigers a slim 11-10 lead almost halfway through the first 20 minutes.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff did not back down and used two free throws from Laquisha Slaton to go up 16-13 but senior Marissa Scott nailed a three-pointer with 8:07 on the clock to knot the contest at 16-16.
The Tigers took the lead for good when senior Toy Richbow made two free throws with 6:33 left for a 20-18 game. With the team leading by five, 27-22, Tiger sophomore Christine Flores sank a layup off an assist from Brown with 25 seconds on the clock for a 29-22 Mizzou halftime advantage.
Mizzou led 31-26 two and a half minutes into the second half before reeling off a 14-3 run over the next six minutes for a 45-29 advantage. Four different Tigers scored during the stretch, led by five points from sophomore BreAnna Brock.
After the Golden Lady Lions got back within 13, 56-43, with 6:57 on the clock, Missouri got hot from the field and used a 25-5 run to secure the victory. A basket by Arkansas-Pine Bluff as time expired gave the Tigers an 81-50 victory.
Mizzou scored 52 points in the second half on 58.3 percent shooting from the floor.
Missouri returns to the court with a home contest on Monday, Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m. against North Texas.
