College Park, Md. - Following the big win over the 47th-ranked and top- seed from Auburn, Mizzou's Chrissy Svetlic and Mallory Weber won two more rounds to advance to the finals of the Maryland Invitational. They took a hard fought, 8-6, win over the fourth-seed pair from Miami (Ohio), Megan Marzolf and Britt Larsonn.
Freshman Maureen Modesto has advanced to the finals of her bracket with two solid wins on Saturday. She first took a hard fought three-set win over third-seed Kristen McPhillips of Miami before taking out the top seed, Cara Wald of Auburn, 6-3, 6-2. The freshman remains undefeated on the year going into tomorrow's finals.
Raquel Wagner also advanced to the finals of the C draw with two solid straight set wins. She first defeated Army's Erika Shortridge, and then took out Miami (Ohio)'s second seed, Sydnee Bridger, 6-4, 7-5.
Freshman Mallory Weber advanced to the finals of the "A" consolation bracket by defeating Anastasia Dracheva, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Following her, 6-2, 6-0, win over Maryland's Oksana Krutiyenko, Mizzou's Kaitlin Dunham dropped a tight three-set match to Auburn's top seeded Gabby Beelen, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Other Tigers in the tournament also had solid wins on the day. Play concludes Sunday at the Maryland Tennis Center.
