Raquel is the daughter of Aimee and Tony Wagner. Raquel grew up in St. Louis, where she started playing tennis at the age of four. She credits her grandfather, Bob, with getting her interested in tennis. It was probably inevitable that Raquel would find her way to tennis as her family opened and owns the Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis, which is well known by all St. Louis tennis players.
She was coached by Shawn Walburn and Dick Johnson prior to college. She was ranked #80 nationally in Girl's 18's, and was top 10 in the Missouri Valley. Throughout juniors, she was a mainstay on the national scene as well as in the Missouri Valley Section. She was invited to attend the Elite TNT Tennis Academy in Texas. She was a regular participant at the National Hardcourts in San Jose, Calif. And the National Clays in Memphis.
More important to her, she was selected and represented the Missouri Valley Section at the National Fed Cup in San Rafael, Calif. She initially played for Texas A&M her freshman year prior before transferring to Mizzou for the strength of Mizzou's academics. She made an immediate impact for the Tigers posting the team's best record. She won the Minnesota Invitational beating Iowa's Kelcie Klockenga in the finals. She went undefeated at the Mizzou Invitational in her flight and qualified for Regionals in Tulsa, Okla. She and partner Chrissy Svetlic have a top 10 doubles win on their resume, among others.
Off the court, Raquel enjoys studying, watching anything Disney, and the always delicious Taco Bell (credit Talladega Nights). She specifically doesn't like being beaten in anything. Although there are many interesting things about Raquel, she considers the fact that she intends to wed at Disney World in Orlando AND her Scotch Tape addiction to be interesting things about her.
