Nicholls Breaks Barbados' National Record at KU Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Missouri junior Shernelle Nicholls surpassed her home country of Barbados' national record in the women's hammer throw on Thursday in the first day of the Kansas Relays in Lawrence. Nicholls' third-place throw of 191 feet (58.21m) extends her NCAA-regional qualifying mark and personal best by 12 feet and moves to second all-time in Mizzou history. In addition, Nicholls moves to the national top 25 with the throw.

Nicholls passed Heather White (181-0) on Mizzou's all-time list with today's performance. Kansas' Zlata Tarasova was the winner with a KU Relays record of 203-2 (61.93m).

Mizzou senior Sara Burbee also made the final and placed ninth with a personal best of 159-5 (48.60m) and moves to Mizzou's all-time top 10 in the event.

In the men's hammer, Chris Rohr, who is redshirting this season was second with a 207-2 (63.15m). Senior Bobby Musil was fourth at 198-4, Nate Englin was sixth at 192-5, and Tyler Dailey was seventh at 190-7.
