Columbia, Mo. - Missouri softball Head Coach Ehren Earleywine named Mark Redburn his second assistant coach for the upcoming 2006-07 season.
After completing one year with the Jefferson College Vikings in Hillsboro, Mo., Redburn has been brought on board to help the Tigers in the areas of pitching and catching.
"I feel that Mark is the perfect fit for what I was looking for in a pitching and catching coach here at Mizzou," Earleywine said. "He understands pitch-calling and mechanics very well. Mostly, I was impressed with his demeanor and ability to communicate. I think he will be a stable and reliable resource for our pitchers and catchers to draw from."
Redburn and his 2006 Viking squad tied for ninth at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National Tournament and claimed the Region XVI title and Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) title with an overall record of 49-16. The 2006 MCCAC Coach of the Year, four of Redburn's player's received NJCAA All-Region XVI recognition, with one named a second team All-American.
Prior to his time at Jefferson College, Redburn was the head women's softball coach for St. Charles Community College in Cottleville, Mo., for three seasons. In addition to serving as athletic coordinator for a year-and-a-half and academic advisor for six months, Redburn coached his team to a single season win record (33-17) in 2004 and tied for seventh at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in 2003. Among his accomplishments at St. Charles Community College, Redubrn recorded the most wins in school history (75 in three seasons) and guided eight players to All-Region honors, six to All-Conference honors and five to Academic All-America recognition.
"Mark has extensive recruiting ties in the state of Missouri and will serve as our recruiting coordinator," Earleywine said. "He is a great addition to our coaching staff and I am excited about having him aboard."
A graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Redburn is working on his master's degree at William Woods University.
