Well, this past weekend was one of our most anticipated meets of the year; Cat Classic. For those of you who couldn't make it out for the meet, as always, it proved to be a great competition for the Tigers. On Friday night in the team competition, we gave our finest performance of the year with our highest team score of a 196.05. This was a great accomplishment and could have actually been a little higher with a little help from the judges on floor. We felt that a few of our scores were quite a bit lower than what they deserved, however, we'll take it in stride because it will only motivate our floor team to keep pushing and getting better like they have each week so far.
We hit 24 for 24 routines for the second straight week in row, which was so awesome because it's one of our goals for the remainder of the season. Adrianne Perry also put in a stellar performance on Friday night to make her way to her highest all-around of the year and yet another all-around title. Not only did our team come out victorious on Friday night, but we also placed almost all of our routines into the finals of day two.
On Saturday afternoon we always have a banquet with all the teams and family members that are in town. I had both of my parents, both of my grandparents, and one of my uncles in town, so it was really fun for me. We have it at the Clinton Club in Mizzou Arena and we eat some really great food and then watch a highlight video from the night before. They stay up all night to make this video which shows performances of all the teams and it's a great way to get pumped up to compete again, especially when your body is already tired from the night before.
At finals, there were a lot of us trying to put some new skills into our routines to see where we were with them for later in the season. I was adding my tekachev back into my bar routine and I also added a punch front into my beam routine. A Perry and Alicia Hatcher also added some new things to both their bars and floor routines. With the six new skills that were added, we made all but one of them, which was awesome!!! Someone from our team took the title on every event: I won vault, Sarah won bars, Amanda won beam, and Whitney won floor. We also had the 5 top places beam, which was awesome if I do say so myself. Also, in the latest poll after the weekend's competitions, our beam team is currently tied for the #1 spot in the country with the Georgia Bulldogs!!! Go BEAM!!!
So, all in all, it was a great weekend. Personally, I had an unforgettable time both in the arena and with my family. Cat Classic is such a special meet, and being my last one, I really took that extra moment to take it all in. What a great year we are having and I'm so thankful for the amazing team that I am fortunate to be a part of as I compete in the last few meets of my life. Thank you all for all of your support along the way, and let's go our there and get `em this week, Tigers! Come out this Friday for our second-to-last home meet against Centenary... or if you can't make it to that, we are heading to SEMO for an afternoon meet on Sunday at 2:00! Hope to see you all this weekend!
One Loud Tiger,
Jodie Heinicka
