Missouri
Head Coach Cindy Stein
Opening Statement:
"Obviously we're disappointed in the way we played, but we faced a great team that we feel can compete for a national championship. Early on, when we made mistakes, they scored, and when we played great defense they found a way to score. Our hats off to them, they played great."
On struggling early:
"I wouldn't say we were tight, we were ready to play, but we had some defensive breakdowns early, and our kids know that is not supposed to happen. They were hitting everything, and we had some good looks that just didn't fall, and when that happens, it puts a lot of pressure on you that just keeps building."
Making NCAA Tournament:
"I am not the type of person that gets wrapped up in what you can't control. We know we are going to be playing somewhere, and we want to go to the NCAA tournament, but if we don't make it, it will be the NIT. We just ran in to a good ball club tonight. We plan on winning whatever tournament we are invited to."
Senior Forward Evan Unrau
On Kansas State's defensive pressure:
"Defensively, they sagged off of certain players, so it was very crowded in the lane. I cannot remember a time when we played against a team that shot the ball so well."
On falling behind:
"You cannot afford to fall behind in any game, but you especially cannot afford to against a great team like that and expect to win."
On what is next for the Tigers:
"It's time we go back and rest our bodies both mentally and physically. A tournament like this can really wear on you and we've missed a lot of school, so it will be nice to get back on a normal pace."
Kansas State
Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening Statement...
"Well I'd like to compliment Missouri, they're a great basketball team. Our team was really firing on all cylinders tonight, but Missouri competed extremely hard and proved the quality basketball team they are. I look forward for the opportunity to see them in the NCAA tournament."
On floor spacing...
"Our players had a great feel for every possession. The spacing was excellent, ball distribution was good, and we had great tempo. I think our floor spacing really contributed to our ability of being so aggressive with the pass and the dribble."
Junior Guard Laurie Koehn
On three-point shooting...
"The execution of our play or something in our offense where someone set a good pick finally got me open for a good shot. It took us a while to get a bucket, but I think we finally got our offense going and started knocking some shots down."
On playing Missouri for the third time...
"I think we knew that they're a great team and they've only gotten better since we played them. We were focused on us, what we needed to do as a team, and who we are as a team. We were focused on executing our offense and doing things defensively that we do everyday in practice."
Junior Guard Kendra Wecker
On defending Evan Unrau...
"We just wanted to contest all of her shots and I felt that we did a good job of that, Amy (Dutmer) played great defense on her and I thought for the most part we chased her around everywhere. She's a great player who can get shots off in pretty much every way imaginable. She's a big presence at the guard spot and she's a great player."
On Megan Mahoney's play...
"Megan is a great point guard for us and she sees the floor so well. At the same time she can make plays on her own. She was really pushing the ball up the floor in transition and having some great passes inside the post to (Nicole) Ohlde. She makes things happen for our team and is unbelievable."
