Denton, Texas-The No. 28 ranked University of Missouri women's gymnastics team capped the 2002 regular season in grand fashion defeating Texas Woman's University 195.450-193.475. The win takes MU to an 8-8 season mark. The Tigers have averaged a 194.536 team score throughout the season and now post a 194.885 regional qualifying score.
Boosting its regional standing, Mizzou started the meet off in distinctive 2002 fashion, the Tigers went six for six on the uneven bars to score a 49.200 team mark-the second highest score posted in school history. It is the fourth time this season Mizzou has recorded a top-10 program score, including a record-topping 49.225 performance against Ball State.
Facilitating the record setting mark, Alisha Robinson, Andrea Nervig and Lindsay Davis each scored a 9.875 to tie for second-place meet honors. The score is a new career-mark for Davis, who tied her previous record of 9.850 in MU's last meet against Iowa State. Junior Lauren Owca and Alina Hamm also helped the Tigers throwing 9.775 and 9.800 scores, respectively.
Missouri moved onto the vault continuing to show determination. The Tigers finished solidly with a 49.150 team score setting another new program mark. Similar to its uneven bars performance, the Tiger vault score is the seventh time this year that MU has recorded a top program score. Missouri's tally against the Pioneers breaks the previous vault record of 48.775 set at the Big 12 Championships in 1997.
Davis kept her momentum setting another career-mark on the vault. She recorded a 9.850 to once again shatter a record set last Sunday against ISU. Also setting a new career-mark, freshman Ashley Asraf started the team out with a 9.825 and Nervig posted a career-high 9.850. Rounding out Missouri's scoring onslaught, junior Rachel Bridges scored a 9.850 and Robinson helped top the field throwing a 9.850-her 10th of 12 vault routines where she has scored a 9.8 and above.
The records continued to come falling down for Mizzou on the floor exercise. Missouri scored a 49.050 to own the sixth-highest score in school history. It is also the sixth time in 2002 that the Tigers have recorded a top-10 score, including MU's top four all-time marks.
Topping the podium, Nervig and junior Laura Forbes won meet honors nailing back-to-back 9.900 routines. Forbes has recorded a 9.900 three times this season, including MU's junior record, and Nervig has posted a 9.9 twice in 2002. Also bolstering the Tigers' score, Bridges put forth a 9.800 effort and Asraf scored a 9.825.
In its final event of the evening, Missouri once again had several athletes tie or break career marks. Asraf and Bridges tied their career highs scoring a 9.850 and a 9.825 on the balance beam, respectively, and freshman Rachael Dombart hit new heights scoring a 9.850. The Tigers scored a 47.950 as a team.
Winning the all-around for Missouri, Davis put up her second-highest career mark with a 39.100 four-event total. The score falls just .1 points behind her career tally set against ISU.
Next up, the Tigers travel to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the 2002 Big 12 Championship on Sat., March 23 at 7:00 p.m. Missouri faces top-10 conference opponents No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 7 Nebraska and No. 8 Iowa State.
