LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team used a 14-2 run to close Saturday's Big 12 Conference game against Nebraska and record a 69-54 victory over the Cornhuskers at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The win improves Missouri's mark to 13-7 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12. Missouri faces No. 9/10 Kansas State Tuesday at the Hearnes Center.
The victory was Missouri's fourth straight over Nebraska. The Tigers have not won that many consecutive games against Nebraska since a seven-game win streak from 1981 to 1984.
MU got five points each from Kerensa Barr and Evan Unrau during its game ending run of four minutes and 10 seconds. Barr finished with 22 points while Unrau recorded her fifth double-double of the season by scoring 18 points and snaring a season-best 14 rebounds. Natalie Bright added 11 points for MU.
Nebraska took a 24-23 lead with 6:19 to play in the first half before MU closed the first half with a 16-3 run to take a 39-27 lead at the break. Terianne Wolford scored six of her eight points during that run while Bright added five.
Missouri held a 10-point lead, 55-45, with 5:56 remaining before the Cornhuskers mounted a comeback by scoring seven straight points. Nebraska missed a potentially tying 3-point field goal and a short inside shot before Unrau snared the rebound and was fouled. Unrau sank both free throws to give MU a 57-52 edge.
Both teams traded missed shots before Nebraska was whistled for a technical foul by calling a time-out when it already had used its allotment. Barr, the nation's leading free throw shooter, sank both foul shots and then sank a 3-point shot to extend the lead to 10 points, 62-52.
Unrau extended the lead to 17 points, 69-52, with a three-point play.
"We knew they would make a run at us," said Barr who scored in double figures for the 18th time this season. "We tried to keep our composure. It was a battle out there."
The game was the 200th career contest for MU head coach Cindy Stein and improved her all-time mark to 131-69 and 66-44 at Missouri.
