
Tiger Gymnasts Fall to No. 4 Ranked Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb.-The University of Missouri women's gymnastics team opened the 2002 Big 12 Conference season facing the No. 4 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Tigers fell to NU 194.700-195.950 taking their season record to 1-2 with a 0-1 league mark. Despite the loss, the score is Missouri's highest recorded in a dual meet against Nebraska.
In its first rotation, Mizzou nailed four 9.8 or higher routines in back to back order. Sophomore Lindsay Davis and junior Alina Hamm both landed season-highs on the apparatus scoring 9.800 to boost the Tigers. Sophomore Andrea Nervig and freshman Alisha Robinson then rounded out the foursome nailing two 9.825 routines.
On the vault, the Tigers struggled throwing just a 48.375 team score. Robinson highlighted the event for Mizzou scoring a 9.850 to win the event. Robinson finished second on the floor exercise with a 9.850 behind Nebraska's A.J. Lamb who scored a 9.950. Hamm and Asraf were next up for the Tigers both scoring a 9.750 on the floor.
In its final event of the competition, Missouri finished in strong fashion recording a 48.850 team score. All six competitors finished out the meet in fine style. Robinson led the Tigers scoring a 9.825 on the apparatus. Rachel Bridges and Leah Gremaud both posted 9.800 to help Mizzou-the mark is a season high for both athletes and sets a new career-high for Bridges.
As an added bonus to an outstanding meet, Robinson took top honors in the all-around competition recording a 39.350. The freshman beat out NU's Lamb (39.300), Richelle Simpson (38.900) and Tami Harris (38.775). Hamm finished fourth in the all-around scoring a 38.800.
Missouri returns to Columbia to host the 22nd Annual State Farm Cat Classic Fri.-Sat., Feb. 1-2 in the Hearnes Center. Brigham Young, Auburn and Pittsburgh join the Tigers in one of the country's premier gymnastic events of the season. The team meet will be held on Friday with individual competition on Saturday.
