Oklahoma State Hands Missouri First Loss of Season

The ninth ranked Missouri wrestling team suffered its first loss of the year by falling to No. 5 Oklahoma State 26-7. The Tigers are now 11-1 on the year and 1-1 in Big 12 Conference play. Oklahoma State improved to 15-3 overall, 2-0 in the Big 12.
The Cowboys won eight of the ten matches, but the wins did not come easy as six of the OSU victories were by three points or less.
Oklahoma State won the first six bouts of the night starting at 125 pounds where No. 7 Skyler Holman defeated MU junior Mark Bader 7-6 to get Oklahoma State on the board.
At 133 pounds, No. 2 ranked Johnny Thompson scored a technical fall victory over Tiger freshman Chris McCormick.
The Cowboys' Ronnie Delk scored a 5-3 decision over Mizzou sophomore J.P. Reese in the 141-pound match.
OSU recorded a second straight 5-3 win as No. 14 Jerrod Sanders defeated MU sophomore, and No. 9 ranked, Jeremy Spates in the 149-pound match.
No. 4 Shane Roller defeated Tiger sophomore Kenny Burleson at 157 pounds with an 8-2 decision.
Oklahoma State's Tyrone Lewis, ranked No. 2 at 165 pounds, downed MU redshirt freshman, and No. 11 ranked, Tyron Woodley in the 165-pound match by a 6-3 score.
Missouri senior John Kopnisky, ranked No. 11, scored the Tigers first victory of the night by defeating No. 10 ranked Ty Wilcox in the 174-pound weight class by a 3-1 decision in overtime. The win gives him 97 career victories as a Tiger, just three wins away from the 100-career wins mark.
At 184 pounds, Tiger junior Dante Stone took No. 6 ranked Pat Popolizio to overtime before falling by a 3-1 decision.
MU sophomore Scott Barker, ranked No. 7, improved to 15-1 on the year by recording a major decision over No. 11 Will Gruenwald 14-6.
In the heavyweight match, OSU's James Huml defeated Tiger junior Kevin Herron 4-3
The Tigers are now 0-28 all-time against the Cowboys. The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they host Eastern Illinois in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse at 4 p.m.
