LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Missouri softball team suffered two losses Thursday. First, the Kansas Jayhawks handed the Tigers a 6-1 loss but more importantly was the condition of MU third baseman Rachael McGinnis.
McGinnis was forced out of the lineup after suffering an eye injury prior to the game. After receiving stitches, McGinnis would return to the dugout but not to the playing field.
Kansas hit a solo home run in the second inning before adding another run to take a 2-0 lead. After scoring two runs in the third inning, the Jayhawks added runs in the fourth and fifth frames to take a 6-0 lead.
Missouri got on the board as Melanie Fisher drove in Karen Williams who reached on a single earlier in the inning. The Tigers loaded the bases but could not score after a fine defensive play robbed Kristin Burke.
Missouri, which is now 25-22, plays Texas Tech Saturday and Sunday. Both games start at 1 p.m.
