
Lady Tigers Win Exhibition Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri women's basketball team forced 40 turnovers and shot 58 percent from the field as the Tigers defeated the Basketball Travelers from Lithuania by a score of 96-50 on Sunday afternoon. Missouri held the Basketball Travelers to just 33 percent shooting while claiming the rebounding edge, 41-31.
Junior Amanda Lassiter paced a balance scoring attack with 17 points while recording 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Seniors Julie Helm and Amy Monsees each added 17 points for the Tigers.
Missouri trailed 5-4 early before hitting the Travelers with a 25-1 run covering over eight minutes. Missouri's defensive pressure forced 10 Travelers' turnovers during that span. Missouri led 41-26 at halftime.
The Tigers outscored the Travelers 55-24 in the second half led by 11 second half points by Helm. Missouri overcame 29 turnovers of it's own, but tallied 28 assists as a team. Sophomore guard Natalie Bright led the Tigers with 7 assists while turning the ball over just three times. Freshman point guard Kerensa Barr added 6 assists while turning the ball over just three times.
Missouri takes on Sports Tours in an exhibition game on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Hearnes Center.
