"Scott suffered an injury plagued career his first two years at UVA," Missouri Head Coach Brian Smith said. "He returned to Missouri to face the challenges of our practice room and compete for a top level program. Scott has worked hard to earn the start at 149 pounds and our staff is looking forward to watching him progress throughout the season."
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA (2007-2009): O'Donnell competed in four tournaments throughout the course of his redshirt freshman season (2008-09), managing a 10-6 record that included a third place finish at the UNC Pembroke Open and fourth place showing at the Virginia Tech Hokie Open. Competing at 149 pounds for the Cavaliers, O'Donnell recorded his first collegiate career fall Nov. 22 at the Pembroke Classic, pinning Cole Caviness of Marion Military Institute in 4:55. O'Donnell was forced to the sidelines in January 2009 after suffering a broken elbow. O'Donnell used his first season at UVA (2007-08) as a redshirt year.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Mo., O'Donnell was a four-time state champion and finished his career with a 172-9 record, good enough to tie for the most wins in school history. As a freshman (2003-04) 103-pound wrestler, O'Donnell notched a spotless 46-0 mark and as a sophomore (2004-05), improved to 92-1. Coached by Gary Mayabb, the Northmen claimed four straight state team titles and were ranked No. 3 in the nation in 2007. The recipient of the 2007 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, O'Donnell was a three-time district champion. During the summer, O'Donnell claimed the Cadet Greco National title in 2003 and Cadet Freestyle All-American honor with his third place finish. O'Donnell earned four letters in wrestling and competed for two years on the cross country team. O'Donnell graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average and was named the 2007 Kansas City Star Scholar Athlete of the Year. Additionally, O'Donnell was awarded academic all-state honors each year of high school and was named to the principal's honor roll every semester. O'Donnell was a member of the student council and German Club.
PERSONAL: Born Dec. 30, 1988, in Kansas City, Mo., to parents Tom and Kathy O'Donnell, Scott has two sisters Megan (23) and Julie (24). Julie was a gymnast at Missouri and Megan competed in pole vault at Central Michigan. O'Donnell is a business political science major.
