1992-93:
MIZZOU: The Tigers' number-one newcomer in 1991-92. She immediately stepped into the MU lineup, starting 26 of 27 games she saw action. Season's second-leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 13.8 points and 7.6 rebounds. Blocked 20 shots for the team's second-highest reject total. Scored in double figures 19 times, including five 20-or-more-point games. Had five "double-doubles." Selected to the Mid-America Classic all-tournament team. Member of the Big Eight Select Team that traveled to Canada last summer. Led the league's all-stars, averaging 14.2 points per game and hitting double figures in four of the five games. A co-captain who will be looked to for leadership on and off the court.
TRINITY VALLEY CC: Received honorable mention All-America honors during the 1990-91 season. Named to the first-team all-conference and all-region squads. Captain for the NJCAA East all-star team. Her sophomore year, averaged 21.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. A first-team academic all-conference choice.
HIGH SCHOOL: Led team to four district finals. Two-time first-team all-district selection, district's co-MVP and an honorable mention all-Greater Houston team selection. National Honor Society member.
PERSONAL: Majoring in general studies with an emphasis in consumer economic management, computer science and Black studies. Prep coach - Dwayne Colbert. JUCO coach - Curl. Parent - Julia Williams. Born April 1971.
RUTHERFORD ON WILLIAMS: "Vantrece is a player that loves the game and expects others to feel the same. She has really improved over the summer in both strength and stamina. She had a great time playing with the Big Eight Select Team and played exceptionally well. Vantrece will play the post position this year and will be counted on to dominate the inside for us. She has tremendous talent and has improved from last year because of her hard work and tremendous attitude. Vantrece will be an impact player for us this year, and will be counted on to lead the team on and off the court. She knows how to win and will expect nothing less. She's the type of player that a coach likes to have on her team. Vantrece leads by example."
