GARFIELD HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL:

  • Averaged 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as a senior for Garfield Heights in 2015-16, leading head coach Sonny Johnson's squad to a strong 23-5 record and a second consecutive Ohio Division I State Semifinals appearance.
  • Played alongside fellow Mizzou freshman Willie Jackson, who were both named to the Associated Press’ Division I All-Ohio First Team to close their senior seasons.
  • Honored to cleveland.com’s boys basketball All-Star team for his efforts following the 2015-16 season.
  • Scored 20-or-more points on five separate occasions as a senior, including an impressive 20-point outing in Garfield’s double-overtime win over Shaw that earned the school the regional crown.
  • Ranked as highly as the 11th-best high school prospect in the state of Ohio during his senior season, according to 247sports.com.
  • Helped lead Garfield Heights to a stout 24-4 record as a junior in 2014-15 before bowing out to eventual champion, Westerville South, by a score of 60-57.
  • Recorded a double-double to end his junior campaign, posting 14 points and 11 rebounds in the state semifinals.
  • Averaged nearly 15 points per game as a junior, including a season- and career-high 28 points vs. Mentor early in the campaign.
  • Previously signed a national letter of intent to Louisville before asking for his release, while also considering interest from Miami (Fla.), Texas A&M, VCU, Wichita State and Wisconsin, among others, at the time.

PERSONAL

  • Son of Shondra and Terry Hughes, and born on Nov. 11, 1997.
  • Was sold on Mizzou during the recruiting process thanks to a strong connection with the coaching staff and feeling a sense of family within the program.
