2023-24 • JAMES MADISON
Appeared in all 36 games as a freshman, helping the Dukes to a 32-4 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round • Tallied 7.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in just 14.9 minutes of action, while shooting 66.9 percent from the floor • One of just six freshmen to shoot at least 65.0 percent on at least 150 attempts • Scored in double figures nine times • Also collected 27 assists and 24 steals during his rookie campaign.

Born July 20, 2005 in Davie, Florida • Son of Vernon Carey Sr. and LaTavia Carey • Father was a national champion (2001) and All-American (2003) offensive lineman at Miami before being selected No. 19 in the 2004 NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins, for whom he started 107 games over an eight-year NFL career (2004-11) • Has an older brother, Vernon Jr., a twin sister, Taelynn, and a younger sister, Dynver • Brother was a 2019-20 All-American and consensus National Freshman of the Year at Duke and was selected No. 32 in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets • Grandfather, Vincent Banks, played basketball at Oral Roberts from 1973 to 1975.
