| One of the most exciting players in the history of Missouri basketball, Anthony Peeler starred for the Tigers from 1989-92. The left-handed guard played on a conference championship team in 1990, on teams that won the Big Eight Conference Tournament in 1989 and 91, and on three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Peeler was the Big Eight Conference player of the year and male athlete of the year in 1992 and won all-America honors. He was the leagues newcomer of the year in 89, and twice was first-team all-conference. Peeler scored 1,970 points in his Tiger career and led the conference with a 23.4-point scoring average as a senior. The Kansas City native was a first-round draft choice of the NBAs Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for the Vancouver Grizzlies, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Sacramento Kings and the Washington Wizards. While with the Kings in 2003-04, he led the league in three-point FG percentage (.482). During a 14-year career, he scored 8,017 points (9.7 ppg), grabbed 2,136 rebounds (2.6 rpg) and handed out 1,955 assists (2.4 apg). He went on to coach at NCAA Division II Virginia Union University. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. |
