The Tigers fall below .500 for the first time since March 27, as they are now 25-26 overall.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mizzou softball (25-26, 7-13 SEC) dropped the second game of the series to Arkansas (39-8, 13-7 SEC), 9-2 on Saturday, April 25 at Bogle Park.
Freshman Abby Carr hit her team-leading 12 home run of the season in the fifth inning. RHP Cierra Harrison picked up the loss in this one as she is now 9-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman Addy Waits did what she did best, as she walked to open the game – 37 on the season. She made her way all the way around to third before fellow freshman Abby Carr eventually brought her in with an RBI single to make it 1-0 to start the game.
Both squads remained silent for the next two innings, as the first threat for the Razorbacks came in the bottom of the third. Harrison gave up her first hit of the game and walked the following batter with two outs. However, she got out of the jam without any runs allowed, as she got the three-hole hitter to pop out to second base.
In the bottom of the fifth, the lead would unravel as Harrison was replaced after a single to left field tied the game at one each. The senior's day would end with 4.2 innings pitched, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Harrison's second run allowed came as Carr replaced her, and that runner scored on a ball that took a bad hop at first base. The rally continued, as Arkansas ended the inning with four runs scored – scoring two on a double – with all the runs coming with two outs.
Carr cut the deficit in half, as she hit a solo home run to left center – number 12 on the year – in the top half of the sixth. However, that would not affect the outcome of the game, as Arkansas rallied once again to start the bottom of the sixth with four runs before it recorded its first out – going up 8-2. The Razorbacks earned one more on an RBI groundout, as they took the second game 9-2.
