Softball Drops Game One Against Georgia

The Tigers got run-ruled for the third time this season, as they fall to .500 on the season.
ATHENS, Ga. - Mizzou softball (21-21, 5-8 SEC) fell in a five-inning run-rule defeat to No. 16/14 Georgia (30-10, 8-5 SEC) 8-0, on Friday, April 10, at Jack Turner Softball Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first inning, walks and timely hitting plagued the Tigers, as Georgia loaded the bases with no outs – off an infield single and two walks. The Bulldogs took advantage from there with a fielder's choice RBI, two singles, a walk and finally a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0 after one.
UGA struck again in the bottom of the third with a solo home run, as senior starting pitcher Cierra Harrison would wrap up her day after hitting the following batter. Harrison wrapped up her outing with 2.0 innings pitched, allowing seven earned runs. Senior Courtney Donahue came in to relieve Harrison and allowed a double and an RBI single to push the Bulldogs' lead to 7-0. A single up the middle added one more – UGA leading 8-0, as senior Kayley Lenger saved another one from scoring as she threw out the runner at home – her fifth outfield assist of the season.
The Tigers' offense couldn't muster anything to delay the result, as they fell in a run-rule for the third time this season.
GAME NOTES
- Larissa Anderson moves to 393-239-1 all-time and 7-9 against the Bulldogs.
- The Tigers are 13-18 all-time against Georgia, and 4-9 in Athens, Ga.
- Cierra Harrison is now 9-6 on the season.
- Sophomore Madison Uptegrove provided the lone hit in this one for the Tigers.
